Manual Credit Card Machine

Before starting this tutorial, download the FREE Morning Glory Pouch pattern and print out your patterns pieces. Make sure you read through the entire pattern before starting.

In addition to the pieces in the pattern, you will also require:

For card slots:

(1) Lining fabric 8' W x 15.25' H
(1) SF101 or similar fusible interfacing 8' W x 15.25' H
(1) Lining fabric 8' W x 4.5' H
(1) SF101 or similar 8' W x 4.5' H

For zippered pocket:
(2) Lining fabric 8' W x 5' H
(2) Lightweight Fusible Interfacing 8' W x 5' H
(1) 6' zipper (or longer)

INTERFACING:

Before starting, fuse matching interfacing to WS of all pieces.

CARD SLOT INSTRUCTIONS:

Step 1: On the WS of your card slot piece, draw the lines as shown in photo above.

Step 2: Start folding your card slots at the 2.5' line. I have the card slot piece WS up and using a metal ruler I place it along the first line and fold and press towards the WS.

Step 3: Turn your card slot piece RS up and place your ruler at the 2nd line on the fabric's RS. Fold the fabric and press towards the RS.

Step 4: Like in Step 2, have your card slots WS up and place your ruler at the next line and fold/press towards the WS. Keep repeating these steps until the fabric has been folded at all of the lines.

When all lines are folded, you should have a piece as pictured above. There are 3 'folds' where the cards will be inserted.

This is a view of the card slots from the WS. A trick to getting perfect slots is that you want the space between the folds to be identical on both shorter edges. Use a ruler to measure and adjust if necessary.

Step 5: Topstitch the card slot folded edges with a 1/8' seam allowance. Make sure you push the other folds out of the way so you don't accidentally sew them together.

Step 6: To ensure the spacing between your card slots does not shift, baste stitch the shorter ends of your card slot piece with a 1/8' seam allowance.

Step 7: To separate your rows in 2, measure 4 inches from either shorter edge (your piece is 8' wide so the center should be 4' exactly) and mark the top and bottom of the card slot piece on the RS.

Step 8: Sew from the bottom mark to the top center mark making sure to backstitch at the top folded edge of each row. You should now have 6 card slots.

Step 9: Take the 8' w x 4.5' piece and place it over the card slots and pin RST.

Step 10: Sew these pieces together but leave a 4' opening at the top edge to turn RS out.

Step 11: Trim away your seam allowance to 1/8' except near the top opening. Turn your card slots RS out. Gently push out the 4 corners.

Step 12: Press your card slots making sure to press the top opening closed. Topstitch the top edge of your card slot piece closing the opening.

Step 13: Place your card slots RS up on top of one lining piece, also RS up. Pin it in place 1.25' from the top edge.

Step 14: Sew your card slot piece to the Lining with a very small seam allowance (less than 1/8' or your cards will be too tight) along the sides and bottom leaving the top open for bills.

ZIPPERED POCKET INSTRUCTIONS:

Step 1: Take one zippered pocket lining piece and draw a rectangle on the WS that is 6' W x 3/8' H centered at the top 1' from the top edge. Pin it to the RS of your Exterior Body piece 1/2' from the top straight edge.

Step 2: Sew around the rectangle you drew keeping your needle in the down position to make turning corners easier and more precise. Use a shorter stitch length (I use 2.5)

Step 3: Draw a horizontal line through the center of the rectangle stopping 1/2' from each shorter end. Draw diagonal lines going from this center line to each of the 4 corners as pictured above. Cut out an opening along the lines you just drew. Make sure you do NOT cut any stitching at the corners when cutting the diagonal lines.

Step 4: Pull the zippered pocket lining piece through the opening you just cut towards the WS of the Exterior body panel. Press the seam allowance along the opening of the rectangle making sure it is nice and flat.

Step 5: Place your zipper RS up inside the rectangle opening of the Exterior body panel, which should also be RS up. Pin in place. (You can glue it in place if you prefer!)

Step 6: Sew around the rectangle opening, stitching your zipper in place.

Step 7: Place your second zipper pocket lining over the attached lining piece and pin RST.

Step 8: Sew the zippered pocket lining pieces together along all sides.
